any 1 who could explain following phenomenon in easy words please :- liberation of CO2 from saliva lchanges pH from 8 to 6 .(basic to acidic) ans NaHCO3 stablizes it i.e from pH 6 to 7 .. can u mak me understand the reactions taking place here plz
@cj49
@Abhisar the busiest person :p
@Jesstho.-.
I am not sure about this, but i think that Liberated CO2 forms an acid by dissolving into water and thus lowers the pH while NaHCO3 is basic and hence increases the pH from 6 to 7
.but its not sufficient :( wel thanks :)
@abb0t @hartnn @Kamille @zepdrix @shamil98
That's all i can say :(
its f9 .. :)
@superhelp101 @PRAETORIAN.10 missing u guys :( :P
Abhisar summed it up, but here are the reactions. Carbon dioxide is dissolved by making carbonic acid \(\sf CO_2 +H_2O \rightleftharpoons H_2CO_3\) Carbonic acid loses a proton to decreasing the pH, although the \(K_A\) is very small. \(\sf H_2CO_3+H_2O\rightleftharpoons HCO_3^-+H_3O^+\) bicarbonate Sodium bicarbonate reacts with hydronium and lowers it's concentration, increasing the pH. \(\sf NaHCO_3 +H_3O^+\rightleftharpoons H_2CO_3 +H_2O+Na^+\)
@saroash omg soooo sorry i wasn't on to help you but i think abhisar and aaronq helped you good!!! :)
i was just kidding dnt b sory @superhelp101 :)
@aaronq @Abhisar thanks alot guys :)
