by "system of equations" they mean the equations of 2 lines a "solution" is when the two lines meet. if two lines have the same slope, can they ever meet ?

It's a tricky question. in general, lines with the same slope are parallel, so they never meet... which means no intersection point, and no solution. However, if the lines *are the same line*, they meet everywhere. They lay on top of each other. That can happen, in which case there are lots of solutions (every point on the line)

Does that make sense? most of the time lines with the same slope do not meet, but *sometimes* they are the same line, and do meet (everywhere)
