OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

Please help me? :3

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

OpenStudy (tylerd):

ok so im guessing this wants you to write a y=mx+b kinda thing

OpenStudy (tylerd):

we have 2 points

OpenStudy (tylerd):

(5,60) and (10,40)

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

oh so then do i use the formula to find slope?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

yes

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

\[\frac{ y _{2}-y _{1} }{ x _{2}-x _{1} } ?\]

OpenStudy (tylerd):

\[\frac{ \Delta f(x)\ }{ \Delta x }\]

OpenStudy (tylerd):

yes

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

\[\frac{40-60}{10-5 }?\]

OpenStudy (tylerd):

yep

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

so then \[\frac{ -20 }{ 5 }\]

OpenStudy (tylerd):

\[y=-4x+b\]

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

and then -4 is the answer YES

OpenStudy (tylerd):

there are 2 -4 answers

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

but it needs to be a function

OpenStudy (tylerd):

so now plug in the values for x and y

OpenStudy (tylerd):

\[60=-4(5)+b\]

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

uhh which values? there are 2 that I can use

OpenStudy (tylerd):

either of the 2 should work

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

In y = mx + b M is the slope, B is the y-intercept or starting point. 1) Obviously it's decreasing, therefore your slope is going to be negative. So that narrows it down to 2 choices. In week 5 you had 60, therefore by applying the slope formula you'll find that the starting point was 80. If you wanted to solve it completely, (5, 60) and (10, 40) \(\ \sf \dfrac{40 - 60}{10-5} = -20/5 = -4 \) y - 60 = -4(x - 5) y - 60 = -4x + 20 +60 +60 y = -4x + 80

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

ok so uhh 40=-4(10) + b ?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

yes that could work

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

ok so b would be 80??

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

so then the equation would be y = -4x + 80

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

but it needs to be a function

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

now im confused

OpenStudy (tylerd):

you could do y=mx+b then plug in one of the (x,y) points for x and y. or you can do the same thing but say \[y-y_{0}=-4(x-x_{o})\] y - 60 = -4(x - 5) y - 60 = -4x + 20 +60 +60 y = -4x + 80 like fizic did

OpenStudy (tylerd):

the function is just f(x)=-4x+80

OpenStudy (tylerd):

y=f(x)

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

ok THANKS!!!

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

so the answer is D rigth?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

could be :)

OpenStudy (tylerd):

is that your final answer?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

you have 3 life lines left

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

Yes it is :)

OpenStudy (tylerd):

correct

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

yesss THanks SOOOO much!!

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

can you help me with one more?

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

actually nvrminf
