Well, in organic chemistry, the definition is a bit more simple than it is when you're referring to redox reactions. Since you're dealing now with only organic compounds and not inorganic species, you can say, with respect to \(oxygen\), that: \(\sf \color{blue}{Oxidation}\) is the gain of oxygen, while \(\sf \color{red}{Reduction}\) is the loss of oxygen.
