OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

What is the difference in conductivity between O.1 M NAOH and 0.1 M NH3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@nincompoop How would you calculate it?

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

you cant just calculate it like that...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NaoH is a stronger alkali than NH3..a strong base which completely ionizes in solution Ammonia is a weak base so it does not full ionize in solution and therefore produces less OH- ions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@nincompoop So how do you calculate the conductivity?

OpenStudy (nikato):

NaOH is stronger than NH3 because NaOH is ionic which means if you put it in water, the positive and negative ions will dissociate. more dissociation= more conductivity this wont work for NH3 because it has covalent bonds. there would be less conductivity compare to NaOH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, we all know that. What we're wondering is how to quantify the difference

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So basically you're saying that from the information provided by the poster, we can't quantify this difference or if we can, you refuse to provide the equation to do so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i think molar conductivity is given by m=k/c where c= concentration of amount of substance as electrolyte and k is specific conductance. for NH3 it's 0.7 for 1% mass concentration while for NaoH it's 48.6 for same mass concentration

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did you get those numbers from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is a table for electrical conductivity of all aqueous solutions

Guys obviously if she would have known that it was in her book she wouldn't be asking for help, she would have went into her book. Lay off she just needs help.

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

thanks guys

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

You know whats wrong with asking for help every once in a while? Not everyone is a genius! Especially you! Get off your high and mighty horse and stop acting as if you know everything in the world! She just needs help. What is your problem? She is asking for help not your bs.
