what is the period of this function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y=\cot x-\tan x -2\tan2x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the period is \[\pi \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@k142.can you help me,please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I agree. you must have f(x)=f(x + pi) for pi to be the period. and it is because cot (x + pi) - tan (x + pi) -2tan2(x + pi) = cot x - tan x - 2tan2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is 2pi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops it is pi,, sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so period of first function is pi.right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes if you mean sin^8x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no no no no .. it is 2pi why are you making me mess it up?? it is 2pi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since sin^8(x + 2pi) + cos^5(x + 2pi) = sin^8x + cos^5x... and pi cannot be because sin^8(x+pi) + cos^5(x + pi) = sin^8x - cos^5x so it is not the same as the original function.

Have to go! take care!
