In order to receive an A in a college course it is necessary to obtain an average of 90% correct on three 1-hour exams of 100 points each and on one final exam of 200 points. If a student scores 82, 88, and 91 on the 1 hour exams, what is the minimum score that a person can receive on the final exam and still earn an A?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, you'd add up all the scores.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then divide it by 500 because that is how much the exams are worth altogether.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you calculate that, please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because you're trying to figure out what score would give you at least a 90%, you'd need to find 90% of 500. To do that, you have to multiply 500 by .9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Once you get the answer for that, subtract that answer to the answer you got from adding up the scores (80, 88, and 91) and dividing by 500.
