OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

Molarity of standardized NaOH solution is 0.1012 final buret reading, mL IS 31.21 INITIAL buret reading, mL IS 15.72 VOLUME OF TITRANT, mL is 15.49 Moles of NaOH used is 1.568*10^-3 mol Moles of HC2H302 neutralized by the NaOH is 1.568*10^-3 Mol Molarity of dill HC2H302 is .0783 what is the deviation di? what is the

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

hi aaronq how are you

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

do you know how to find the devaiton di, i need help

OpenStudy (aaronq):

hey, i'm good. how are you? what does "di" mean in "what is the deviation di?"

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

no i think diluted

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

volume of dilluted vinegar used in each titration is 20 mL .02 L molarity of standardized NaOH solution is 0.1012 M

OpenStudy (aaronq):

You need to know the "true value" to find the deviation. The general formula of deviation is: \(\sf deviation=\dfrac{|true~value- experimental ~value|}{true~value}\)

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

so the true value is

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you would have to be given it, or calculated it from other data.

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

as there were four titrations we did in the experiment, and we had to find the avarage molarity of diluted vinegar which i found and it was .07865M

OpenStudy (aaronq):

so take this as the true value. Unless they're asking for the standard deviation, then you would have to do something more complicated.

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

the average is the true value

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

deviation = .07865-.0783 /.07865

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yep that's good. They probably want "percent deviation", so multiply this by 100 and add a % sign.

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

is it the average which is .07865 divided by Molarity of dill HC2H302 which is .0783 over average again

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

no they just said "what is the deviation di?"

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

so answer is 1.00446998

OpenStudy (aaronq):

nope, your value should be very small because it's close to the true value - recall that deviation means "how far off the true value is my experimental value". deviation = .07865-.0783 /.07865=0.00445009

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

@aaronq and do we round off to how many sig figs

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you know, i think they want just this: deviation = .07865-.0783

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

.00035

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

are you sure they would want just that

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

i mean my teacher did not relly go over how to caculate deviation

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

but you said deviation=|true value-experimental value|true value

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yeah, i'm pretty sure that's what they want. It can be, there are different ways to express it

OpenStudy (aaronq):

i would write 0.000350 to get the right number of sig figds

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

now how do i calculate average deviation, D

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

look up mean deviation of sample

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

http://www.mathsisfun.com/data/mean-deviation.html

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

MEAN is another way of saying AVERAGE

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

if you read the information in the link you will learn that

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

you are just calculating the data he probably got frustrated

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Why do you keep tagging me when you already are being helped?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Look at the example on that website

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

@Brainybeauty

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

how do i calculate average deviation, D Do you know?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

@Night-Watcher

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aaronq gave you the formula. You should be able to get your answers using that,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what do you have to find out in that?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

the formula i thinks to find the average deviation is \[\pm \sum_{?}^{?}(x _{1}-x _{ave})/n\]

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

there were 4 trials and the deviation was .000350 .000150 .000250 .000250

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

Molarity of standardized NaOH solution is 0.1012 final buret reading, mL IS 31.21 INITIAL buret reading, mL IS 15.72 VOLUME OF TITRANT, mL is 15.49 Moles of NaOH used is 1.568*10^-3 mol Moles of HC2H302 neutralized by the NaOH is 1.568*10^-3 Mol Molarity of dill HC2H302 is .0783 avearge molarity of diluted vinegar is 0.7865 M the deviation di is .000350

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you doing a chemistry practical right now?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

yes lab question

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

delete your post on my question please

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

@Night-Watcher hlep me

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

i need to plug in the numbers in the equation
