I really need help with compounds?
1) What is the formula for a compound that contains na+ and Po4 ^ 3- ions? I know the answer is Na3pO4 but I don't understand how I would know that ?? 2) The name of Al2(SO4)3 is.. A) aluminum sulfate B) dialuminum trisulfate C) dialuminum sulfate D) dialuminum trisulfide E) aluminum (III) sulfate I don't understand the difference between the ending -ite, -ate & -ide .. how am I suppose to know which is which ? PLEASE HELP!
@Loser66 do you think you can help me with this one?
1) Sodium (group 1) makes +1 ions, while the phosphate ion (a polyatomic ion) is made of 1 Phosphate and 4 oxygen atoms. Phosphate carries a 3 - charge. So you need 3 sodium ions to balance the charges on the phosphate ion. |dw:1411787634563:dw| There is a trick, for any set of ions, you "cross" their charges. So that the charge on one becomes the number of atoms (coefficient) in the other. For example, What's the formula for \(Fe^{3+}\)and \(O^{2-}\) ? |dw:1411788164178:dw| \(\Large 2~Fe^{3+}+3~O^{2-}\rightarrow Fe_2O_3\) 2) watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peguZTUTgHI
