The empirical formula for a garnet is Fe2Al2Si3O12. An analysis of a sample of garnet gave a value of 8.5% for the mass percentage of silicon. Is this consistent with the empirical formula?

OpenStudy (cuanchi):

you already know how to calculate the molecular mass of a compound. So do that with the empirical formula Fe2Al2Si3O12 consider as in algebra that if you have two atoms of Fe you have to multiply by two and 3 atoms of Si you have to multiply by 3. Then calculate the percentage by mass of Si in the compound. Considering the compound 100%. and see if this is 8.5% more or less
