Please check my answer!

The front of a metal shed needs to be spray painted. One can of spray paint will cover 20ft^2. If the 8ft x 8ft square door isn't painted, then how many cans of spray paint will you need to buy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 8 cans.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Can you explain how you got eight cans? I got a different answer, however I may have done something wrong so I would like to see your explanation.

OpenStudy (radar):

I got 8 cans also.

OpenStudy (radar):

A total of 160 sq ft needs paint.

OpenStudy (radar):

Lower part is 96 sq ft plus 64 sq ft of the upper.

OpenStudy (opcode):

@radar how did you calculate the roof? If I may ask.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[96+\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\times \sqrt{128}\times \sqrt{128}=160\] \[160\div20=8\]

OpenStudy (radar):

Note that there is a little square at the top to indicate a right angle so \[x ^{2}+x ^{2}=16^{2}\]\[2x ^{2}=256\]\[x ^{2}=128\] Now at this point, we see that one side x is the base, the other x side is altitude A=1/2 x^2= 1/2 128 =64 sq ft.

OpenStudy (opcode):

I see, thank you. :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you guys think my answer is correct?

OpenStudy (radar):

You're welcome, I take i that the bottom half was a piece of cake @Opcode

OpenStudy (radar):
