OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

give two examples of how your solubility tests verify the rule that "like dissolves like" Example from the solubility test with water

OpenStudy (preetha):

Take water and ethanol. Water ionizes and dissolves ionic compounds, Ethanol does not and is an organic solvent. So it can dissolve things like oil and acetone.

OpenStudy (preetha):

No Toxic, that is guidance. Now you think about what I just wrote and come up with an answer.

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

For example, benzoic acid is not soluble in water, yet it is soluble in sodium hydroxide solution and in sodium hydrogen carbonate solution because these bases react with benzoic acid to form the water-soluble benzoate ion.

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

can I say this is one example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ioiodine and sugar

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

how is iodine and sugar one

OpenStudy (preetha):

y are probably looking for something like, Since Water is ionized, compound that are ionized are soluble in water. For example HCl is soluble in water but not in Acetone. Acetone is an organic compound and can dissolve organic compounds that do not ionize such as alkanes, oils etc/

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

so this the answer I can give

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

it says give two examples of how your solubility tests verify the rule that "like dissolves like"
