How many valence electrons should you use to draw a Lewis structure of ammonia (NH3)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe its 8. Why? I believe 8 since N has 5 valence electrons and Hydrogen has 1 but you have 3 Hydrogen's. So 5+3 = 8. Tell me if I am wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NH3 has 8 valence electrons. if you are drawing the lewis dot structure you would draw 2 next to the nitrogen

OpenStudy (ookawaiioo):

Just two valence electrons.
