Net-ionic equation for hydrolysis of ZnCl2
Start by writing down the hydrolysis reaction of zinc dichloride. Can you do that?
ZnCl\(_{\sf2(aq)} \rightarrow \)
@abb0t I currently have Zn^2+ + H2O <--> ZnO + 2H+ except i don't think "ZnO" is corecct
Well, hydrolysis means it is the cleavage of water by some species. First you have the dissociation of water: \(\sf \color{blue}{H_2O \rightarrow} H^+ + OH^-\) And then, ZnCl\(_2\): \(\sf \color{green}{ZnCl_2 \rightarrow Zn^{2+} + Cl^-}\) Do you follow me?
@abb0t yes i understand what you are saying!
for for the net ionic equation how would those be combined?
@abb0t so would this be correct n^2+ + H2O <--> Zn(OH)2 + 2H+
Wait, actually, I think you are correct. You form ZnO + HCl.
lol. so n^2+ + H2O <--> ZnO + 2H+ is fine?
@abb0t
Yes.
@abb0t great thank you!
