Help! Any formulas??? Any help??? Evaluate this expression: -|2√9| + 2 A. -8 B. -4 C. 4 D. 8
Am I the only one who sees a bunch of question marks?
I see a ton of question marks, haha. Could you rewrite it please?
Don;t copy and paste though, cause it will still appear ?
Maybe a screenshot of the problem typed out would be better?
Sure.
Here.
You just need to solve it. First, lets get rid of the sqrt (squareroot). What is the sqrt of 9?
3
So -|2+3| +2 Now solve what's in the absolute value.
-|6| + 2. So, since it is an absolute value of -6, then 6'll be positive? And then will it come out to positive 8?
Remember, the negative sign is OUTSIDE the absolute value sign. You are just finding the absolute value of 6.
And then you add the negative.
Soooo..-4?
-6 + 2 is =4, right? Then there you go! Glad I could help!
Thanks so much!
Yep!
To best show your appreciation, you can give me a medal. :) xD
Um, I have just one more. I know the others after this one. I just want to know if there is another way than guess and check.
Ah, will do.
Okay let's check out that other one.
What can it not be for it to be more than zero?
x can't = 0, right?
That too, but what else can the whole thing not equal?
Negative numbers?
Yep, so x can't be something that will equal negative once cubed or squared. If you square a number, can it equal negative?
Nope
So which answer can you eliminate?
B
Yep. But what does the last one say, I can't read it. Is it squaring or cubing the x?
Cubing. So, can I eliminate that one, too?
Can you have more than one answer?
Well, if a cubed number can equal negative, then yes.
As far as I know, there is rarely more than one answer.
Yeah, never mind there is only one answer. So now that you have eliminated two, you are left with 1/x^2 > 0 1/x^2 + 1 Lets start with the first one. Is there a number x can be that will be negative or equal 0?
Yes
Then can that be an answer?
1/-3^2 is greater than 0, right? 0.1 repeated. I just tried a number out for x.
So, I think the first one can be an answer.
Yes, that would be greater than x. But what about if x = 0?
You can't divide by 0. So, that leaves C as the only answer.
There you go.
Thanks!
Aw thanks for becoming my fan! :) And you're welcome!
Make sure to close the question.
No problem! :) Well, that's all I've got. I'll be finishing up. Thanks again!
Yep!
