OpenStudy (bruno102):

The Quantum Mechanical Model is used to describe: Answers the energy and most likely location of an electron the energy and the most likely location of an atom the location of the electron only the energy of the atom only

OpenStudy (micahm):

is based on mathematics. Although it is more difficult to understand than the Bohr model, it can be used to explain observations

OpenStudy (bruno102):

That doesn't help answer my question...

OpenStudy (micahm):

Well for one thing it explains why electrons don't spiral into the nucleus (as classical physics would predict). Quantum mechanical theory states that electrons will inhabit discrete energy levels (orbitals). Therefore it would only fall into the nucleus if it lost exactly the right amount of energy, but there is a limit to the energy values it can emit in the form of a photon. The main point is that available energy values are not continuous and this why electrons fall into strictly defined orbits rather than just going anywhere they want to or colliding with the nucleus.

OpenStudy (bruno102):

Ok

OpenStudy (micahm):

does that help

OpenStudy (bruno102):

No :/ I think it might be A though. Thanks for your help

OpenStudy (micahm):

sorry if it did not help

OpenStudy (bruno102):

It is fine. Do you think it is A?

OpenStudy (micahm):

OpenStudy (bruno102):

Ok thanks for your help. I hope A is correct lol

OpenStudy (micahm):

me too

OpenStudy (bruno102):

I have one other question I am having trouble with that I am going to post.

OpenStudy (micahm):

ok
