Well, quadratic formula definitely works, but this doesnt require the quadratic formula. In the end, you find 2 factors of the end number that add up to the middle number. Th end number for you is 20, the middle number is -12. This means that the two factors that work are -10 and -2.
-10*-2 = 20
-10 + -2 = -12, so it works out. Since the two numbers I found are -10 and -2, this factors into (x-2)(x-10). Which yes, gives intercepts of 2 and 10 and those are 8 apart :)
