what is the distance between the two intercepts of the graph of y=x^2-12x+20
well you can factor the quadratic and find the distance between the x- intercepts
my answer is 12 which is not in the options
help me out plz
Were you able to factor it properly?
yeh
after factorizing i get two answers x=13.38 and 1.48
Shouldnt get anything like that. The factors come out very nice. Do you know the procedure for trying to factor something like this?
yeh i use quadratic equations
i got the answer its 8?
Well, quadratic formula definitely works, but this doesnt require the quadratic formula. In the end, you find 2 factors of the end number that add up to the middle number. Th end number for you is 20, the middle number is -12. This means that the two factors that work are -10 and -2. -10*-2 = 20 -10 + -2 = -12, so it works out. Since the two numbers I found are -10 and -2, this factors into (x-2)(x-10). Which yes, gives intercepts of 2 and 10 and those are 8 apart :)
thank u so mch:)
the 2 intercept are x intercept and y intercept
for x intercept put y=0 and get x value so point is (x,0)
for y intercept put x=0 and find y value in the equation so point is (0,y)
u have to find distance between (x,0) and (0,y) use distance formula
thanks @gorv
