OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Bond angle and molecular structure shape of propane? (C3H8) @surry99

Parth (parthkohli):

All carbon-atoms are sp3 hybridized. That makes a tetrahedral shape with carbon as the center.

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Is there a difference between a tetrahedral shape and a bent triatomic shape? @ParthKohli

OpenStudy (surry99):

yes a perfect tetrahdron would have bond angles of 109.5. Water for example (bent triatomic) has angles of 104.5 degrees. If you draw the Lewis dot structure for water I can explain to you why it is different

OpenStudy (surry99):

ok, now check the total number of valence electrons...are you missing some?

OpenStudy (surry99):

remember it is H2O not HO2

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

hydrogen has 1 valence electron, and oxygen has 6 each

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

oops, sorry
