OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

Study the electron dot diagrams in Figure 1 above. Which of the elements are most likely to react and form a compound? What type of compound are they likely to form?

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

My guess is Lithium and fluorine?

OpenStudy (aakashsudhakar):

You are correct. Lithium and Fluorine are highly reactive, as you can tell from their electron configurations. Lithium has only one electron, so its behavior is that it wants to donate it, while Fluorine has seven electrons, so its behavior is that it wants to accept an electron. Together, the compound would be lithium fluoride (LiFl), which is ionic.

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

That's what I thought.....thank you so much!

OpenStudy (aakashsudhakar):

No problem! Sorry to bother, but if you could give best response, that'd help a lot!

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

:D
