I suspect the question should be interpreted as: Lawrence has a combination of five and ten dollar bills in his pocket, with a total of 15 bills that are worth $100. How many five dollar bills must he have?

Any answer choices? I can figure this out without answer choices, but answer choices would make it easier to solve. @graceeramoss

Pick a possible answer, then figure out what does not work about it, then modify your possible answer to try to improve it. So, suppose all 15 bills were $10 bills. You would then have $10 x 15 = $150, which is too much. So, try replacing one of the $10 bills with a $5 bill: 14 x $10 + 1 x $5 = $145 You can continue this process until you find the answer, or... look to see if you can see a pattern, and use the pattern to skip the answer more quickly.
