Plzzzzz help!!! will medal if answered 1. What is the balanced form of the following equation? Br2 + S2O3^2– + H2O → Br^1– + SO4^2– + H^+
I haven't balanced an equation since the middle of last year. But I'll try
i know how to balance an equation i just don't know why they are to the power of something negative and stuff
Can you take a screenshot of the problem? Sometimes when they are to the power of something negative, it means that they are polyatomic ions. Therefore, the sum of the oxidation number isn't equal to 0 anymore. It's equal to the number..
If you were to just balance this part: SO4^2- S's oxidation number can be: -2 4 6 O's oxidation number can be: -2 What will add up to the negative exponent? -2 x 4 (Oxigen) + 6 (from the Sulfur)
S2O3{2-} + 4 Br2 + 5 H2O = 2 SO4{2-} + 8 Br{-} + 10 H{+}
@alyssaxx do you know what the 2- and things are?
'-'
-2 is the sum of the oxidation numbers...
ok guys thanks you guys are life savers!!
Did you understand? Or do you want us to solve it for you?
Usually, when there is no number at the right corner, it is meant to be 0 So the oxidation numbers have to add up to 0 If not, it adds up to any number
Any given number *
i still don't understand but i think @alyssaxx gave me the answer...is it correct?
Yes, I got the same answer
thanks!!! i will ask my teacher next week, when i have her for class...im in k-12 and we only meet once a week so it is hard to understand everything
