each atom of \(^{216}Po\) will eventually decay into \(Pb^{212}\), says the problem. It is very important to realize that the TOTAL number of atoms will be conserved: 1 atom of Po will decay into 1 atom of Pb. Knowing the ratio of atoms (195:65) lets you find the percentages of the two atoms. Does that help?

you don't have to convert anything. If you consider the atoms at "age zero", all of the atoms will be \(^{216}Po\), right?

slowly, the atoms will decay into \(Pb^{212}\), but each atom that decays is still part of the system. So the total number of atoms will always be 260
