Statistics question.

@inkyvoyd

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

do you know the empirical rule?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

68-95-99.7 rule? ever heard of it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

so for the first problem, can you tell how many standard deviations we are talking about?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

yeah... it's actually within 1 standard deviation though so we take 68% here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then what?

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

so that means we are taking 68% of the population right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

what is the population though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2000

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

so how many people is 68% of 2000?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha one sec lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1360

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

yup :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok cool great ty! could u help me with the rest lol cuz i got to be done tonight with these lol

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

so the standard deviation is the square root of the variance, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

so what's teh variance int he second problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry im back lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sample variance is 25

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

and the standard deviation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it does not say

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

nope, but isn't the standard deviation the square root of the variance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha yah ok one sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 5

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

and 68 percent is within how many standard deviations according to the rule?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i do what i did in the last problem?

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

kind of... 68 percent is within one standard deviation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah, let me se one sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can we find population with mean, standard variance and standard deviation?

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

ugh you win it's the fourth one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ughh lol could u just tell me how u got it lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and ty

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

68 percent means 1 standard deviation. if variance is 25 than standard deviation is 5. if the mean is 25, then mean plus or minus one standard deviation is (20,30)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh ok lol, could u help with som emore plz?

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

I'm sleepy sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha ok lol ty soo much!

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):
