FAN + MEDAL Two trains ,each 80m long passes each other on parallel lines. If they are going in the same direction, the faster train takes one minute to pass the other completely. If they are going in opposite directions, they overtake each other in 3 seconds.find the rate of each train in meter per second.. ans - 28 m/s and 76/3 m / s
Are you asking how to solve it?

I have a question. For the first part, where the trains are travelling in the same direction, does the one minute that the faster train takes to pass the slower train start from when the faster train is behind the slower train are when they are starting next to each other?
*or when they are...
Okay well assuming that the faster trains starts behind the slower train, then we can create an equation. Say x is the speed of the slower train and y is the speed of the faster train. In the one minute that elapses, the faster train must travel the same distance as the slower train, PLUS 160 meters because the faster train must catch up to the front of the slower train(80m) and then another 80m in order to completely pass the slower train. Thus 60y=60x+160
Now because we have two variables, we need two equations. For our second equation, we use the scenario where the trains face each other. Here, both train must cover a sum of 160 meters in 3 seconds because they need to bring align themselves and then surpass each other which is two train lengths. Thus we have a second equation 3y+3x=160 Solve the system of equations to find the answers.
so your answers are correct :)
