(BEST ANSWER GETS MEDAL!) In the following precipitation reaction: Pb(NO3)2(aq) + 2KI(aq) → PbI2(s) + 2KNO3(aq) Which ion would NOT be present in the complete ionic equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pb2+ K+ NO3- I- All of the above are ions in the complete ionic equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one moment please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be K+

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since in the reaction that ion is in aqueous solution and in product the ion is still in aqueous form and the charges when present in the reactant and product remain the same. Thus they cancel out and won't be found in the ionic equation anymore.
