Slaked lime is often used to remove calcium ions from hard water. Since the carbonate that is produced reacts with the Calcium ions in the water to precipitate as calcium carbonate. If hard water has a calcium ion centration of 1.5x10^-3 M and you want to reduce that concentration to 0.7x10^-3 M, what must be the concentration of the slaked lime?

The equation of slaked lime reacting with bicarbonate to precipitate calcium carbonate is given with this equation: \[Ca (OH)_{2} + 2HCO _{3}^{-} -> CaCO _{3}(s) + CO _{3}^{2-} + H _{2}O\]
