see attached file - redox reaction question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whi is the answer +3 to 0? thanks

OpenStudy (jfraser):

In the formula of the reactant, the nitrogen are bonded to three -1 ions. The -1 iodides and the -1 hydrogens. As a PRODUCT, the nitrogens are in their elemental state

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so both NI and NH make the oxidation number of N to be +3 correct?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

yes

OpenStudy (jfraser):

but the formulas are \(NI_3\) and \(NH_3\). there are three iodides and three hydrogens
