Identify the bond types between the carbon and the two oxygen atoms in the carbon dioxide molecule. Describe the bond angles. Explain how the structural formula can be used to help determine the bond angles. I just don't know how to explain how the structural formula can help determine the bond angles please help.
So to briefly introduce, Carbon is the central atom surrounded by 2 oxygens and after that, you need to determine the bond angle basing from the number of lone pairs and electron dense regions around the central atom, in this case the C. So C has 0 lone pairs and has 2 electron dense regions, one where there are 2 bonds for one O and 2 for the other O. Do not confuse yourself with number of bonds on each side . It is simply that regardless the number of bonds to an atom, just consider the bond of an atom-atom to be 1 electron dense region. Having all this, the bond angle is 180degrees.
Got it?
I already solved it by the time you replied but thanks anyways :)
