.5 g of Ca is added to 50ml of 1.0 M HCL. Once the reaction is complete, the temperature of the solution...? has risen from 25.2 to 71.4. The reaction proceeds by the following equation: Ca(s) + 2H---->Ca(aq) + H2(g) Calculate: a. the heat gained by the solution

When dealing with heat gained by the solution, use the formula E=-mcT, where E is energy, T is change in temperature, c is specific heat capacity (generally of water) and m is mass, but you can also use volume of the liquid only. Therefore E=-50*4.18*(71.4-25.2)= 9655.8 J
