The molecularity of the reaction : 2H2 +O2= 2H2O is ? The answer is given undefined . Why ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

molecularity of a reaction tells the no. of molecules colliding simultaneously in a reaction to bring the chemical change..........it is undefined for reactions which involves more than one step....it is only defined for the reactions which occur in a single step.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isn't this a single step reaction ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it isn't.....that's why its molecularity is undefined...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It looks like a single step reaction . How did you know , its not a single step reaction ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u can't tell just by looking at a reaction about its no. of steps......u hv to know it before...................... and when u see that molecularity of a reaction is defined then its a single step reaction and if its undefined then its a multi-step reaction
