Which of these structures has a resonance structure? CH2CL2 H3O+ N2 C2H2 SCN- HF SO2 NO3- NH3 C2H4 SO4^2- HNO3 Thanks!

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Which do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@abb0t As of right now H30+, N2, C2H2 are no. I wanna say Ch2Cl2, C2H4, SO4^2-, HNO3 would be. I have no idea honestly though.

You're on the right track with what you have so far since you gave 3 correct answers. Just a note, dichloromethane (\(\sf C_2H_2Cl_2\)) does NOT have resonance. BUT, acetylene (\(\sf C_2H_2\)) does. So switch those two around. Now you have 4. Can you think of 3 more? It might help to draw the structures using lewis dot, if that helps. Do you understand what "resonance" means? It is the movement of electrons, or distribution of charge, in essence.

I have the Lewis Structures drawn for all of those but how do you tell or know how to switch them up and draw the resonance?
