Can someone help me better understand REDOX? I am mostly not understanding how to tell which elements are oxidized, as opposed to which are reduced.

First when you are looking at a redox couple, the one that goes up in oxidation state in a chemical reaction is being oxidized (reducing agent/reductant). The redox couple who's oxidation state is lowered is reduced (oxidizing agent/oxidant).
