Check my answer, please? Thanks! ^.^
Find the value of x. I got x=7 Hold on while I draw the diagram..

(I think my answer is completely wrong b/c I have no idea how to do this)
@e.mccormick could you be a super hero and help me out here?? Phleeease? xD
what information is given about the diagram? any segments on it are equivalent?
Not really, it all it says is this: Each diagram shows a trapezoid and its median. Find the value of x.
oh, it is a median of a trapezoid, that is much better.
Yes, I guess I should have mentioned that. Sorry. xD
is it also that:|dw:1418862228487:dw|
I mean does that angle have to be 90?
Well side "21" is parallel to side "x".. so I believe so.
It seems like 7 is wrong
With a trapezoid, it does not need to be right. But there is a formula for finding the length of the median if you know the length of both sides. With a little re-work, you could use the medan and one side to find the other side.
It probably is wrong.. I kind-of just guessed because I don't know how to set up the problem in order to solve for x.
Yes, I know that @e.mccormick, but I'm struggling to set up the problem in order to solve. .-.
The length of the median is the average of the sum of the length of the sides. Do you understand what that means?
Yeah, that means it's half of the sum of the two other sides.
Yep. That gives you a formula to put things into. Then you just solve for the unknown in any case.
so if I say that the bases will be \(b_1\) and \(b_2\) and the median will be m, then the fomula is: \(m=\dfrac{b_1+b_2}{2}\) So to answer this question or any similar trapezoindd and median question where they give you two of those three, plug them in and solve for the third.
And it is not 7....
(21+7)/2 = 14...
So the formula for this one would be: 13= 21 + x Correct?
13 = (21+x)/2
Oh. Yeah I forgot the division part. xD So 13=(21+x)/2 but what's the next step? Subtract 13 from both sides??
No. For solving for something, you reverse the order of operations and then try to get stuff away from it. That means you need to move things away from x until it is all numbers on one side and x on the other Normally you would do what is inside the ( ) first, but now it is last! So you skip that. So, what is is near x and outside the ( )?
Divide by 2? o.O
Yes. And how do you get rid of division?
Multiplication.
=) OK, so what does that do t it?
Turns the "13" into a "26".
Yep. 26 = 21 + x Now what?
Subtract 21 from both sides?
Yep. Then you will have an answer.
WOoOoOoHOoOoOoOo!!!! \^o^/ \(\LARGE\bf\color{red}{\bigstar~T}\color{gold}{_H}\color{lime}{A}\color{cyan}{^N}\color{blueviolet}{_K~~}\color{magenta}{Y}\color{orchid}{^O}\color{pink}{_U}\color{red}{!~\bigstar}\)
Would you be willing to help me with some more in about an hour or so?
If I am still around...
Alright, sounds good. Thanks again! ^.^
