Medal and Fan Identify the properties of single and double replacement reactions.

OpenStudy (nechirwan):

Single Displacement (or single replacement) reactions involve a compound and an element in both the products and the reactants. For example, Zn + 2HCl --> ZnCl2 + H2 ; 2AgNO3(aq) + Cu --> Cu(NO3)2(aq) + 2Ag(s) Each side has one element and one compound. Double Displacement (or double replacement) reactions involve compounds on both sides, and the cations are switched in the products. For example, Fe2O3 + HCl --> FeCl3 + H2O ; Na2SO4(aq) + BaCl2(aq) --> BaSO4(s) + 2NaCl(aq)
