Predict the predominant type of bonding of CsI covalent bonding ionic bonding metallic bonding

OpenStudy (abhisar):

What do you think it should be?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Covalent Bonding takes place between two non-metals. But Cs is a metal so option A can not be correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be option C ?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Metallic bonding takes place between positive ions and electrons of the same metal.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Ionic bond takes place between a metal and non-metal. Is Cs a metal? and I a non-metal? Yes

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Getting it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, thank you

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Welcome :)

<3 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Just for additional information if you want to do it analytically, If the electronegativity (EN) difference is between 1.6 and 2.0 and if a metal is involved, then the bond is considered ionic. EN of Cs is 0.7 and that of I is 2.66, this gives you a difference of 1.96 which is between 1.6 and 2.0 and since Cs is a metal involved the bonding will be Ionic.
