Simplify vwill attachv

OpenStudy (jolo_yolo):

OpenStudy (andrewthecookie):

2 and 1/3

OpenStudy (jolo_yolo):

thanks, can you explain why it's 2 1/3?

OpenStudy (andrewthecookie):

yes

OpenStudy (andrewthecookie):

the square root of 2?

OpenStudy (andrewthecookie):

= 1

OpenStudy (andrewthecookie):

so it turns into 1/3 x the square root of 2

OpenStudy (andrewthecookie):

wait a sec

OpenStudy (andrewthecookie):

I'm going to redo it make sure i did it right

OpenStudy (jolo_yolo):

okay

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

@Sadworld What do you think? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2^{\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }} - 2^{\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }} = 2^{\frac{ 1 }{ 6 }}\]

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

OOOH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x ^{m} / x ^{n} = x ^{m-n}\]

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

that was good

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

you see radicals very nicely

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

@AndrewTheCookie

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{x} = x ^{\frac{ 1 }{ }}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was drilled way to hard on exponents to forget so soon. Linear equations are my weakness.

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

For this problem I attempted to multiply everything by the sq rt of 2, so i can simplify the numerator.

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Didn't work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiplication is not really needed if not factoring. Simplifying expression is more about laws of exponents than everything else. You have to change roots into exponents and from their on it's self explanatory.

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

But say you did it my way and multiplied this by radical 2..could you still solve it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/2?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

i'd get\[\frac{ 2 }{ 2^\frac{ 1 }{ 3 } }\]

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

so i guess not. lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lols

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try sqrt of 2

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

any reason why, though? it's basically multiplying by 1.
