Chemistry help! 1) How to understand if a substance is liquid in a reaction? like: H2O(l) 2) How to understand if a substance is solid in a reaction? like: Na (s) 3) How to understand if a substance is aqueous (aq) in a reaction? like: HCl(aq) Please, explain how can you find out the state of a substace in a chemical reaction.
If you know the temperature and pressure at which the reaction is running at you can look at a phase diagram to figure out what state it is in
You also have to consider solubility I think there are solubility tables
The problem is I do not know what is the temperature and pressure. The solubility idea can be a good one.
well if you assume ambient temperature then you can just look up the chemicals melting point/boiling point and have an idea
solubility table would be good if you are using a solvent
or one of the reactants is the solvent itself
you can use msds to look up chemical info
I guess you can assume the solvent is water for what you are asking
I will send you a photo of the question in a moment.
Here is the photo and I wrote down some chemical reactions, but the problem is that I do not know the exact phase of them!
For instance for Na2CO3 or CuSO4 or MnO2, I don't know if they are solid or aqueous!
http://misterguch.brinkster.net/6typesofchemicalrxn.html first this http://intro.chem.okstate.edu/HTML/SCSIMG/SCH1650.gif this should suffice MnO2 is insoluble just look up its msds it will say the other 2 will be soluble from my experience, CuSO4 will only be partially soluble but it will be soluble
Na2CO3 is definitely soluble both sodium ions are soluble and CO3 is definitely soluble anyways happy new years Im out
Ya thanks a lot! Your answers were really helpful! Happy new year!
