balance the chemical equation _____C2H6(g) + _____O2(g) ---> _____H2O(g) + _____CO2(g)

Do you know the rules to follow when balancing a chemical eqn?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To start off, you should always balance the Carbons, followed by Hydrogen's and then Oxygen's.

We should start by balancing the carbons. On the LHS of the reaction there are 2 carbon atoms and 1 on the RHS. So we can put a 2 infront of the carbon dioxide gas, so that all the carbons involved are balanced.

Do you want to give the Hydrogens a go?

The final balanced equation would be 2C2H6(g) + 7O2(g) --> 6H2O(g) + 4CO2(g).
