Can someone balance this equation for me? I dont understand! Br2 + S2O32– + H2O → Br1– + SO42– + H+

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 Please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Australopithecus Plz?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont get how to do this equation

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

its the same deal just make sure that the number of atoms on one side equals the number on the other side for each elements Br2 + S2O32– + H2O → Br1– + SO42– + H+

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

So start with the first side and make an inventory of atoms Br2 + S2O32– + H2O Has 2 Br atoms 2 S atoms 33 O atoms 2 H atoms On the left we have, Br1– + SO42– + H+ 1 Br atoms 42 O atoms 1 S atom 1 H atom We can balance Br by adding a 2 next to it Br2 + S2O32– + H2O → 2Br1– + SO42– + H+ Now we have, On the Right 2 Br atoms 2 S atoms 33 O atoms 2 H atoms On the Left 2 Br atoms 42 O atoms 1 S atom 1 H atom so, Br2 + S2O32– + H2O → 2Br1– + 2SO42– + H+ So Br is balance Now we have 2 sulphur atoms on the right and 1 on the left so double the amount of SO42- On the Right 2 Br atoms 2 S atoms 33 O atoms 2 H atoms On the Left 2 Br atoms 42*2 = 84 O atoms 2 S atom 1 H atom sulphur is balanced now we need to adjust the amount of Hydrogen and oxygen so we have 84 oxygen atoms make it equal on both sides by playing with the amount of water

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

I left the reaction as: Br2 + S2O32– + H2O → 2Br1– + 2SO42– + H+ Balance the amount of oxygen in the reaction then balance the amount of hydrogen There are faster methods im just using logic though, those videos will give you reliable methods to use to solve these problems

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!! However its not 33 O atoms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its O^2-and 3 under the O

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

yeah well it doesnt really change how you find the answer

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Not to come off as a jerk but next time give the person answering your question time to answer rather than opening the same question again, it is pretty rude. Also kind of unnecessary.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sory

OpenStudy (anonymous):

new to this

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

its fine no big deal
