A galvanic cell is constructed using chromium and tin. Based on the standard reduction potentials shown, which statement correctly describes the reaction that occurs in the cell? Cr3+(aq) + 3e– ----> Cr(s) Eº = –0.74 V Sn2+(aq) + 2e– ----> Sn(s) Eº = –0.14 V A. Reduction occurs at the chromium electrode. B. Tin metal forms when an electric current is applied to the cell. C. The mass of the tin metal anode decreases. D. The concentration of chromium(III) ions increases.
@aaronq
galvanic cell implies that the cell works spontaneously, which means that \(E_{cell}\) is positive. Rearrange the equations so that the \(E_{cell}\) value is positve.
It's A right? because its a reduction?
hm the reduction might not be at the Cr(s) electrode though, look at the potentials.
@aaronq ohh so it's B?
current is not applied to cell because it's galvanic not electrolytic.
it's D
i know lol thank you :)
haha k good. no problem
