Write the equation of the line, in point-slope form and slope-intercept form, that contains the points (-2, -1 ) and (2, 1 ).
It's called the slope formula because you are solving for the slope
actually its y1-y2
Slope formula is m=\(\Large \frac {y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\)
Apply the giving to points there for the slope :)
ok ok and ok
after solving for the slope apply to the point slope formula plus one of the giving points \(y-y_1=m(x-x_1)\)
WHOAH WHOAH WHOAH
WHAT HAPPENED TO Y2??
What happened to y2, what do you mean? It's p[art of the slope formula for you to apply the given y value there.
part*
oh i got confused cuz you only said y-y1
for the point slope, the x1,y1 means that you are plugging in values to those points, set aside x,y
Do the first step. Can you solve for the slope with using the formula i given to you? :)
"gave to you" sorry had to correct you there
Wait im still confused whats X and Y in the second part?
You are given the points (-2, -1 ) and (2, 1 ) \(slope=\Large\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\) Let's say \((x_1,y_1)\)= (-2, -1 ) is the first point \((x_2,y_2)\)=(2,1) is the second point Plug those in \(slope=\Large\frac{(1)-(-1)}{2-(-2)}\)=?
both the negatives would become positives and the minus would become a plus then you add them together and it turns into 2/4
btw how you do the line thing for 1-(-1)/2-(-2)
yes, and if you reduced the fraction by the divisions of 2 \(\Large \frac{2\div2}{4\div2}\)=\(\Large \frac{1}{2}\) The slope is 1/2 Now, we have the point slope formula. y-y1=m(x-x1) Plug 1/2 for m and I will choose this point (2, 1 ) as for x1,y1. Again, It doesn't matter what point to use.
so what is x? we know x1 is 2 so is x -2?
x1,y1 is not the same as x1,y1 we used for the slope formula But anyways, x1,y1 is (2, 1 ) therefore x1 is 2 and y1 is 1
i chose any point slope i wanted for x1,y1 in the y-y1=m(x-x1) formula. I chose (2,1)
look man im not talking about what is x1 im talking about what is the regular X in the equation y-y1=m(x-x1)
The regular x and the regular y, those what determine a graph to become a function meaning set of rules. y=mx+b m and b are numbers, y and x, is any number that is plugged for x determines y. Makes sense? Example. This equation y=2x+6 see where y and x don't have numbers?
ohhhhhh ok!!!
look i can work it out later can you tell me what this is?
So, back to your question. Have you plugged the numbers yet? m=1/2 (x1,y1)=(2,1) or if you want (-2,-1)
You mean, to tell you the answer?
i remember how to do it now but its gettin late and i really need this plz!!
I'm sure you can do it Diamond!! =D
come one man
come on*
plz
Come on diamond, i know you can. You are almost near to solving the question. All you have to do is plug and solve for y and you are done! :D
so 1/2+2x=y?
If i tell you the answer, that means my goal in tutoring you is gone for nothing :( My goal was to walk you through.
|dw:1421724871370:dw| Here, i plugged it for you. Can you now distribute and solve for y?
