In an effort to lose weight, a person runs 6 km per day at a speed of 4 m/s. While running, the person's body processes consume energy at a rate of 1.7 kW. If fat has an energy content of 40 kJ/g, how much fat is burned or metabolized during each run? How many days must he run in order to lose weight by 10 lbs?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Hint: Rate of energy consumption of 1.7 kW = 1.7 kJ/s (by converting to basic units) 1. Calculate how much time he spends running. 2. Multiply the time by the rate of energy consumption to get the number of Joules he consumes per day running 3. Divide this by the fat content to get the mass of fat "burnt" per day. 4. Calculate how many days to lose 10 lbs = 10*453.6 g = 4536 g.

Yes. Thanks a bunch. I'm solving it right now. The hint helps a lot. :)
