Describe what happened as the ice melted. Where do you think the energy goes when it is not raising the temperature?

When a phase change takes place the temperature remains constant. As ice melts, the latent heat is used to change the solid to a liquid without a change in temperature. The energy goes into the breaking of the bonds that hold the water molecules together in the solid state.
