OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Which electron would have the highest ionization energy for an oxygen atom? A. 6th B. 2nd C. 1st D. 5th

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

@aaronq C right?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

wait no it's A not C! right?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yep! removing electrons creates a positive charge, electrons are more drawn to the nucleus (i.e. experience a higher effective nuclear charge) and are therefore harder to remove

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

wait...so it is C? @aaronq

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no it's A

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

oh ok thanks :)

OpenStudy (aaronq):
