Using the table of standard reduction potentials, what is the reduction potential of the cell that produces the following chemical reaction? 2Fe3+ + Zn --> 2Fe2+ + Zn2+ A. −0.01 V B. 0.77 V C. 0.01 V D. 1.53 V

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

@diamondboy I got it wrong...it's not B. What did you get?

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

what was d reduction half reaction again?

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

2Fe3+ ------> 2Fe2

OpenStudy (jfraser):

you need to do this one step at a time. if all you're doing is guessing with a half-finished idea, you wont' actually learn much

OpenStudy (jfraser):

what's the potential for that reduction from the table?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

I don't know. Can you explain it quickly? I don't have much time left...

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

do u have d table?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

No I don't

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

sorry its so long but dats d table

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

I have to submit this is 7 minutes or I'll fail! Can you please explain it quickly?

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

its 0.77

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

its C

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

thanks :)

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

did u get it?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

0.77 or 0.01?

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

sorry 0.77

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

it was wrong. the answer is D.

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

OMG I am so sorry

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

I know why now

OpenStudy (diamondboy):

for d half oxidation reaction we were to flip d value of E it was negative on d table we were to make it +ve then add it to 0.77
