use the quadratic formula to find the roots. You can use the roots to find the factorization. Why does this work? Because the factorization of a polynomial helps you find the roots. So you're thinking backwards in a way.

Ex: y = x^2 + 5x + 6 has the roots x = -3 and x = -2. You can use the quadratic formula to find them. Then you use those roots to get this factorization (x+3)(x+2)
