What is the charge on the nucleus of each of the following? a) Mg b) Ne c)K^1+ d) S^2-

For c and d. It is K+ and d is S 2-, but I do not understand what the question is exactly asking me to find. Solve and explain. Thank you.
The charge of the nucleus should just be the amount of protons. Electrons are not located in the nucleus, so it shouldn't affect the charge. Protons are +1 each so the nucleus net charge should always be positive( in this case)
Does this mean to find the atomic mass or atomic number?
Atomic number (protons)
For example, MG has a nucleus charge of +12. The element itself since it's not an ion is a neutral charge of 0.
