41. TRUE or FALSE: C2H2 will dissolve in water.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

What do you think? You have a 50:50 chance.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can usually tell if their non polar when, your dealing with same diatomic element example Cl2, or when its contains a carbon atom and one other atom (exludes carbon monoxide- an exception) so you can tell if their soluble by remembering the solubility theory, nonpolar can only dissole in nonpolar and polar can only dissolve in polar you should know by now if water is polar or nonpolar btw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so water is polar and my answer is false

OpenStudy (abb0t):

well that's wrong.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

although, there are better solvents to dissolve ethyne, it can still, due to resonance. it is quite hybridized, and so, more "electronegative" than alkenes/alkanes.

thank you =)
