Four species are listed below (i)HCO3- (ii)H3O+ (iii)HSO4- (iv) HSO3F Which one of the following is the correct sequence of their acid strength?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can compare acidic strength as giving out a proton..that would create +ive charge to the atom and if the positive charge is more on the central atom the possibility of giving out the positive charge will be less..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would create a negative charge :) CO3(2-) H2O SO4(2-) SO3F(-) These are very random options to compare , what should i keep in mind while comparing ? number of resonating strucures , no charge on the specie ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah negative... lets start from scratch acidic strength is about giving out H+ or receiving the e- so more the positive charge on the central atom easier will be the trap of e- that means higher OS of any specie is more acidic
