Is there any need for religion? I certainly think not but I'm wondering about those who think there is a need
@PixieDust1 @Opcode :)
No need Personally, I believe that people follow with their faith, not a practiced thing
If you follow the U.S. Government, which is founded on man's right to make and enforce laws then there may be no need for religion. If you follow U.S. history you'll find it went from being governed by a small elite, male white property owners, to broad spectrum of people with changes of laws accordingly. The question is this a modern day Rome, in which Christ said give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's. Regardless of where you fall the secular government appears to have earthly control, but I find trying to follow the millions of laws within it more difficult then following scriptures which actually has it's laws within it.
I'd say there certainly is a need for religion. I don't know why you would think there isn't. After all... Atheism is by definition a religion.
Which means all you're really saying is the same things that other religious people are saying. Their religion is correct, and no other religions are really necessary.
In the U.S. you have freedom of religion, but just because the Government accepts doesn't neccessarily mean that a God will accept. We in this country have been blessed by nature and what our ancestors have taken in this country and around the world. In the New Testament it say's "you can't fight evil with evil", the reason is if you win your the only evil left, definitely needing salvation. The religions in this country are protected by the Government even through some believe it's their God, as missionary's are protected with their passports under Government protections. This may be the way it has to be in this world but I hope and pray not always.
i agree with @TheRaggedyDoctor you are wrong
When you experience telepathy, I have, or observed teleportation, I have, even though I haven't sought them or do I seek them out. You begin to realize that there's more to this world than I was educated in or even hinted at as modern syfy. These most likely are a matters of being human and science but that begs the question what else is out there hidden or secret that others may know and use to have some sort of control on us. The question is who do you wish to influence your life, in what direction, for what purpose, and most of all does the end justify the means which I'm against.
wasn't this country (U.S.) founded on the basis to freely practice religion. the puritans?
General each colony had there own religious charter, it was only Pennsylvania that had freedom of religion as part of their charter in order to get more immigrants. When the U.S. was formed the Bill of Rights only pertained to the Federal Government, States had religious preference. After the Civil War and passage of the 14th amendment, the Supreme Court required each State to add the Bill of Rights to their individual constitution in1868.
Religion is not "a practicing thing". And its not really about the religion if you get what i mean Its about your Relationship with God and if you believe in him. Because many people can practice a religion and technically really be athiests because they aren't really grasping the full picture.
I believe that Religion is essential. I feel it.
How would this world be without religion? Without ever knowing about any creator or Anything, Nothing. Really think about that deeply. Because we all know how it is now by ignoring God and religious beliefs.
But what if we never knew?
I asked my father shortly before he died, do you believe in God?, His response was yes and I would like to meet him, I have many questions. I guess there are question that are answered in our life and some will just have to wait. In my life I've experience many things I don't think my father experienced them, but I do believe that they are giving him some answers. When you go to a cemetery and see your parents tombstones remember they are not monuments to them, you are.
i think their is even if you dont belive in god Atheisum is still a religion
Basically an atheist believes in mankind and there own ability to create a better world. While I believing in my Lords realize that mankind sometime can't be trusted even to do what's best for itself and trust my Lords to guide me and other through a maze of deceit into the light. Who hasn't had a person lie to them, create a bad rumor about you, and even affect you in a negative way. These individual experiences should tell you there's just something out there that can't be trusted.
Yes we need Religion. Many people think we can just live our lives and then when we die they don't know what will happen. If you read the Bible, you can see what happens after we die. It also tells you what God's purpose is for your Life :)
Atheism is not a religion, an atheist does not have a belief, just a lack of faith in any deity. Ergo by definition not a religion, because a religion dictates there to be some sort of deity. @KendrickLamar2014 that assumes a God exists, and there is an after life. Those fail to be needs in any objective sense. As one could simply dismiss the case to being apathetic about it. Define what you mean by a need for religion, as in what manner? If you want to explain things, science does just as well as religion in that area. Past arguments for the need of a deity, was complex organisms (now rebuked by evolution), the two philosophical needs for God, one being the why question, another for purpose, both however haven been rejected, and or are able to be filled with non-religious based answers. There is no need for religion in any explicit sense, but there is a need for religion when it comes to yourself, since there is a major philosophy behind it.
Philosophy is basically a way of life, so is religion. The understanding of a particualar Philosophy may take some time to study and requires a semi-mature mind to comprehend. While religion used to be taught from early childhood onward to help a person live in this world. Today is no different, when a child ask why you may answer so he can understand, if you can't you say because. Generally few questions about life are simple, we try to make it that way by just studying certain questions that can be formulated in a basic way as mathematics and science, when we do this we think we know something and tackle other question which actual may be well beyond us.
The thing is though what defines a religion, is a belief in a deity, not a dogma or way of life. Religions can be far from influencing your life (and, they can be really close), for instance Hinduism is so dynamic, that with nearly every other person you can find major differences in how they live their life even if their are both Hindus. Religion is no longer a place where people learn how they live their life, well for many at least. Counter hand many do use religion for how they live life, but that is beside the point, religion is not a way of life, just a simple belief in a deity, or deities. Philosophy as a way of life, is humorous or at least I think so, I think it has more to do with contemplations, that are unanswerable by man. (Or like you say, beyond us.)
Religion-1 a: the state of a religious; b(1) the service or worship of God or the supernatural; (2) commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance; 2: a personal set of institutioanl system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices. 3 archic scrupulous conformity: conscientiousness; 4 a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. As you can see from the various definition above one really must define what they mean by religion. My personal religion is actually 2 above where I use KJB scriptures to forms my moral and ethical frame work. In doing this I'm fullfilling 1 b(1) and I do not place a limits on my Lords, God and supernatural. Religious-1: relating to or manifestion faithful devotion to and acknowledged ultimate reality or deity; 2 of, relaing to, of devoted to religious beleifs or observances; 3 a: scrupulously and conscientiously faithful; b: fervant, zealous If one uses ultimate reality instead of deity you come up what generally is occuring in our secular society, as everyone is indoctrinated into our secular societies ultimate reality, which it may or may not be.
